I was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. The lifeway I was offered there proved unfulfilling, so I set out to find another. I didn’t know where to look, nor even what I was looking for. I trusted that the path would be laid out before me, if only I had the courage to follow it. Indeed, that path presented itself to me and led me through 30 countries in 10 years, through enriching experiences with extremely diverse peoples and cultures, through countless adventures and endeavors and educational opportunities, then eventually to the Desert Southwest where I spent 5 years living as a nomadic goat-herder, and to where I stand today: as a man who can provide for himself and his tribe in a direct, meaningful, and fulfilling way, and empower others to do the same.
I am a certified Naturalist and Educator with almost 20 years experience living in some of the wildest places left on Earth; I have empowered thousands of people with skills that they will use for the rest of their lives, and pass on to future generations; I have guided many seekers in re-kindling intimate relationships with the wild world and its wonders; I continue to inspire those I encounter to have the courage to risk the unknown, to work to create the life they want, the culture they want to be a part of.
The Winter Moon Initiative is my attempt to initiate true cultural renaissance, one person at a time: to educate, enliven, and enrich a failing culture, an ailing populace. I am a basket weaver; the Winter Moon Initiative is the basket I continue to weave, the space I hold, for those who seek, those who are ready.
And now I most humbly extend my hand to you, you reading these words in this moment: Are you ready to begin to transition out of an unfulfilling culture of consumption and destruction? Are you ready to taste the potential richness of the human experience?
So my good friend Marc Warnke, owner/operator of Outdoors International, somehow cajoled me into being a regular guest on his podcast. Well, if you’d like to get to know me better, and hear a few things I have to say about a few things, you can check out those podcasts:
Folks will ask: Who else is part of the Winter Moon “Tribe”?
